Found this little gem from the coupon book/Entertainment Guide-like thingy for this area. Ordered a mixed seafood dish, mixed tofu and vegetable dish, and a spicy chicken dish, that was actually SPICY. Portions are ginormous, food is served HOT, and it's definitely low on the grease factor. What a surprise, right? (Hey, hey, hey, I've had some bad Chinese food in my time that's left me a'yearning for Panda Express.) It was my first time visiting and the owner was very nice and hospitable. Decor is meh. This is a place you go to for the food, not the ambience. He mentioned that he plans on introducing Vietnamese items to the menu in about a year or so. I'll be waiting with bated breath!!!

Some of my family and I ended up hungry in St. Joseph. We decided to try New Hong Kong for lunch. This is cheap American style Chinese food. The restaurant was very clean and all of the food was fresh and piping hot. I spent less than $6.00 on my lunch entree and still had enough left over for supper. My son ordered a noodle soup and had enough for three meals. The owner was very friendly and helped with all of our questions. The fried rice was unusual but tasty. I waffled on this one between three and four stars. I loved the low price, the fresh ingredients, and the friendly owner, but while the entrees and soups were very good, the egg rolls and dumplings needed to be better prepared. If I am in St. Joe in the future, and get a hankering for some American style Chinese food, I will would definitely go back but skip the appetizers.

This restaurant tragically does not represent any of the great cuisine from Hong Kong. As someone who recently traveled to Hong Kong and stayed there for an extended period I can say that this restaurant is so far removed from Chinese food that it represents an entirely different category altogether. To start with a spring roll was terrible. My main dish I could barely eat any of it. Last but not least there was a stale fortune cookie. Caveat emptor. This can only be best summarized as what people in western Michigan think Chinese food should be If you are ever in Hong Kong, try eating at Tim Ho Wan in Mong Kok or the one in North Point area. "The world's cheapest Michelin-starred restaurant". You'll get a feel of real Chinese food.

This is one of the few places that has delivery. Being that I'm vehicle-less at the moment, my options were very limited. Anyways, the food, flavoring, etc, is super-American-style. If that's what you like, then that works for you. I felt like all the dishes tasted the same and were just drowned in sauce. The shrimp didn't even taste like shrimp. :P The orange chicked was very breaded-y. I ordered ~6 dishes for ~$28. So the price is SUPER GOOD. The soup, is HUUUUUUGE. =) Very LARGE PORTIONS!!!. anyways, you get the idea. So, its Americanized Asian Food made for your prototypical American. Fried rice = white rice sauteed in soy sauce that makes it all a deep brown color. I actually liked it. What's wrong with me? :P I think I'm losing my Asian-ness. hahah.

My wife and I recently moved to the St. Joe area from Indiana. Our local Chinese food quest has begun, and we are trying to find a few of our favorites. I tried two different dishes at New Hong Kong for takeout. One was disappointing, the other exhilarating. The fried dumplings had a filling that was very bland, and the brown sauce that was drizzled over them in the container was EXTREMELY salty for my tastes. We prefer a filling that is very meaty and tastes of ginger and a thin soy-based dipping sauce that includes the chopped green onions. We also like a lot of caramelization and crunch - and these had been very lightly fried. The Singapore noodles, on the other hand, were excellent. I am always encouraged with the possibilities of a Chinese restaurant by these even appearing on the menu. They had just the right amount of curry sauce to give them a pleasant yellow glow, and a healthy amount of chicken, shrimp and vegetables in the noodles. This was some of the best I have ever had. We won't order the fried dumplings again from here, but we will return to try other dishes based on the extraordinary Singapore chow mei fun.

5 stars depends on what you try, Hong Kong chicken is my favorite. I can't move past that yet.

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
